CHARLIE CHARLESWORTH - Host and Producer

"My DAD, by C.J. Charlesworth

Those of you who want to know what makes my Dad tick you need to know about where he came from and who he came from. If you ask my dad how he got where he is today, he will tell you loving and caring parents who thought enough of their children to say NO when No needed to be said. He'll tell you he got his mother's smarts and his father work ethic and moral fiber. My grandfather and my father were decorated Marines;they were each what I'd call a Marine's Marine or a Mans, Man. Tough as nails while at the same time two of the most caring individuals you will ever find. Both of them were "Born Again Christians" and both of them were humble enough to be Sunday School Teachers. Both were involved in Law Enforcement and were known as "no nonsense, by the book supervisors" and Detectives. Those same tough guys were the ones that you found working in all sorts of community based service organizations.

My dad says everything he knows today he learned from my grandfather and one of those things he learned was a respect and admiration for the outdoors and nature. My dad learned to hunt, trap, fish and camp from his dad who was also his Scout Master. Seems like one of those 1950's TV shows doesn't it. Well it was! Both of them were the consumate outdoorsman, both of them are the "Father knows best" good guys that lived next door.

Grand Dads gone, but dad still following in his footsteps.

One of them shy'd away from the spot light and never sought the attention and one of them glowed in the spotlight and jumped at every chance to be the center of attention. It's not to hard to figure out which one I'm talking about- is it?

My Dad's television career has covered the whole spectrum of positions you'd find at a Networks affiliate station. He has run the gambit of sales, sales management, producer, executive producer, Host's of all types from Holiday specials, parades, talk shows and infomercials. It wasn't until he got the opportunity to jump into a spot hosting a fly fishing show that he got the urge to forego it all and put his efforts full time into producing what I think is one of the best FlY Fishing shows on TV. My Dad says except for Jose Wehebe. He says to make a perfect TV series you must show exciting locations, teach them something while at the same time keeping it entertaining. Every show or episode must have a story line. Nothings more boring than hook em, drag em to the boat, throw them in the live well, hookem, drag them to the boat throw them in the live well. My apologies to the Bass fishermen out there.

His first weekly local series was called Fly Fishing Northeast Pa.. That was ten years ago. When his market expanded to 10 affiliate stations in the Northeast US the show became "Outdoors on the Fly" and he has spent the last two years producing the newest series Fly Fishing Top-2-Bottom. Hope you enjoy the season.

I'm a Hydro-geologist and he's always trying to get me to do a water quality segment on the show. Maybe you'll see me in the future.
