Welcome to Puma Fishing Lodge

PUMA FISHING LTDA. operates in Chilean Patagonia's fjord land region based in the Yelcho watershed which is considered by many anglers and fish biologists to be home of the largest resident Rainbows, Browns, and Brook trout in all of the Patagonia.  In addition to the three trout species, this area also has significant populations of Steelhead, Sea Run Browns, Atlantic Salmon, Chinook (king) Salmon, and Coho (silver) Salmon.

We were one of the very first operations in this region with our floating lodge in Lago Yelcho in 1989.  Lago Yelcho is a 28 mile long lake with 7 rivers flowing into it (including the Futaleufu) and Rio Yelcho coming out of the lake on its 50 mile journey to the Pacific Ocean near Chaiten.  In 1998, we built a beautiful lodge on the Yelcho River halfway between the lake and the ocean.  From these two base operations we fish various rivers, lakes and estuaries; therefore we have a wide range of options available for the time of year and weather conditions to maximize your angling experience.  All of this in a breathtaking setting of virgin forests, glaciers, magnificent mountains, and volcanoes!

The PUMA (floating lodge)

The original custom built lodge/mother-ship was retired in 2006 and a new custom built mother-ship was ready for clients during  the 2009 season.  The 60 ft. yacht, PUMA II handles 6 fisherpersons in double occupancy cabins and a crew of 5.  Each cabin has its own bathroom and shower.  The PUMA travels the entire lake fishing the various rivers and bays from Chilean wooden skiffs pulled behind the PUMA.  Thus you can fully experience some of the most incredible dry fly lake fishing in the world to cruising and rising Rainbows, Browns, and Brooks.  The average size of the Rainbows and Browns in the lake is 2 - 7 lbs with double digit fish not uncommon.  The salmon species are also present periodically for your enjoyment.  Fishing this lake has been called "the best flats fishing one can experience in fresh water" by several of our clients that shallow salt water fish - AND IT IS DRY FLY FISHING!  Besides the beautiful scenery, fantastic fishing and the ability to move the lodge to protected bays and river mouths there are two additional advantages of the PUMA - the fisherperson that is unable or prefers not to walk and wade only has to walk back to the back of the PUMA and get in the skiff and go fishing.  AND the fishing is only a few minutes away!
